If you choose optional Music Technology modules, the Music Department provides all the equipment students will need to participate in workshops and complete coursework. This includes bookable on-campus facilities (Digital Composition Studio and Recording Studio) as well as loans of sound interfaces, microphones, iPads and portable hard-disk recorders. Many students opt to purchase their own Apple laptop (with HE discount), software and MIDI keyboards etc. to complete coursework outside of the department, but this is not a requirement. Should students taking Music Technology modules be required to study remotely due to unforeseen circumstances, they will require access to a personal computer on which specific freeware applications can be downloaded and installed and a MIDI keyboard and headphones as appropriate. We can offer temporary loans of additional location recording equipment, subject to availability.
If you choose to take Performance modules you will need to budget for associated costs. It is students’ own responsibility to maintain their own instruments and purchase any music you might require for recital examinations. The exact costs relating to this will vary.
